Puerto Williams – as we were well on schedule to return to Ushuaia on time, we were able to spend the day in Puerto Williams. After checking in with Chilean immigration, six expeditioners went on a hike to a nearby mountain while the “weakest link” (AKA the writer of this post) decided to investigate the tourist spots in the town
From Herschel Island, we sailed for the most part of the day to Puerto Williams, Chile. It was a long day, but full of wildlife and interesting landscape along the way. From Paso Goree to Puerto Williams, the sea was teeming with wildlife, hundreds and perhaps thousands of seabirds.
Today was a rather long journey from Pleneau Island to the US base, Palmer Station, on Anvers Island. In the afternoon, we landed on Amsler island for a walk and to primarily experience Southern Elephant Seals firsthand. Though incredibly smelly (worse than the penguin colonies) they were impressive animals to behold.

We left Port Lockroy after a very interesting night – strong winds and ice hitting the hull intermittently throughout. We travelled towards Booth Island through the Peltier and Lemaire Channels.
