06/02/2020 – Thursday
The winds had improved, and we left Deception and headed to Trinity Island off the coast of Trinity Peninsula. Upon arrival, despite very strong winds (and getting quite wet in the zodiac) we ventured to see a colony of Gentoo penguins. The “weakest link”(AKA the writer of this post) didn’t venture too far on the island as she nearly was blown off her feet!!! Julin cooked a yummy pasta carbonara.
07/02/2020 – Friday
This morning Dave cooked bacon and eggs and we headed to Trinity Peninsula. On the way we spotted a giant iceberg with both Gentoo and Chinstrap penguins on it – very unusual, apparently, for them to be seen together. Zvi commenced preparing dinner early. We also spotted 2 Humpback whales, but they also were too far away to get a close look. We moored in a bay north of Cape Herschel where we couldview Mount Ader (2368m) in the background. Today, the “weakest link” had her first kayaking experience – how fantastic!! Woohoo!! So many photos taken!!
Tonight, we will move from this beautiful place to another position as our safety is not assured with the icebergs in the near vicinity. We anchored a short distance away still, however, at Cape Herschel.

February Trip 2020
Aaahhh! D…. have just finished reading all your posts. And I know there’s heaps more adventures I can’t wait to hear about. I get so emotional and excited reading all about the Antarctic.
I bet you’re just thriving sailing around, taking your turns at watch and, yes, writing your posts. A great diary of events that I hope you’ve covered each day.
